Immigration is a mixed bag. In general immigration laws need to be reformed carefully. Some good people are being kept out, while the Mexican border remains a major problem.

The Mexican border should have been locked down 30 years ago.

Now, finally we have governors like Bill Richardson declaring an emergency and heavily beefing up border security. I would follow his lead.

The proposed wall seems outrageously expensive. As for the amnesty programs and guest worker programs, what a mess and mass of conflicts of interest. It takes real honest common sense leadership to cut through the BS and make the right moves. Bush's plan doesn't work because once in the country, Mexicans won't leave and will have children here. Also, on enforcement he's all talk little action.

Frankly, I don't think we'll ever stop the illegals completely, and of course, all those businesses that want cheap labor don't want it stopped. This is probably the trickiest problem facing us. No perfect answer.
