Mark,

Your post greatly relieved me until I actually tried what you suggested:

cover up the little clear plastic piece on the back corner of a Zip disk with a small piece of masking tape and then try to insert it into a Zip drive!)

I just used what I had handy, a chartreuse post-it note and scotch tape. I covered the clear plastic in its entirety, and voila, no difference! I could read, write, protect, and unprotect the zip disk. Thinking you were nuts, I then covered it with masking tape as per your instructions, and then it was immediately ejected. I put scotch tape on the masking tape, same result, immediate ejection. Thinking I had screwed up and not entirely covered the clear plastic, I repeated with a new chartreuse post-it note and scotch tape, and once again there was no problem reading etc. the disk. Can anyone else repeat this experiment with chartreuse (or green or yellow) paper?

Taking a big gulp and eyeing my 2000 shares nervously.
