There is no way the South Vietnamese would have ever asked us to leave, since we were the only thing between them and being swallowed whole by the north.

But the Iraqis will be in a much better position after their elections to claim they can take care of themselves enough for us to start drawing down our force levels considerably.

So we declare victory, we are kindly invited to go and we graciously agree. Backsides covered all around.
