Routine tests conducted on poultry in North Carolina found the H3N2 strain of bird flu in turkeys, which is a mild, low-pathogenic strain of bird flu common in birds and poses no threat to humans, according to the U.S. Agriculture Department.

And the H5N1 subtype detected in two wild ducks in Manitoba is completely distinct from the strain currently present in Asia.

So far,H5N1 is the only one of 16 varieties of avian influenza or "bird Flu" that has shown any ability to directly pass from one human to another. It has spread from Southeast Asia to China, Russia and now Europe. But so far, it hasn't been isolated on any birds in Canada or the U.S.A.
