When they initiated the SS fund life expectancy for retirees was only a couple years past 65. If the funds existed for 10 years then it was a net positive. Retirement age was never indexed for life expectancy. (It was slowly modified upward finally in the next few years.) [That is confusing tense use, but it is technically accurate.]
