ATCO-Commercial LRAD and Govt NeoPlanar sales American Technology Corporation Receives Notice of over $1 Million in New LRAD(TM) & NeoPlanar(R) Orders; Company Announces LRADs Being Shipped to Major Commercial Maritime Companies, New U.S. Navy NeoPlanar Sound Saber(TM) Order
SAN DIEGO--(Business Wire)--Dec. 6, 2005-- American Technology Corporation (ATC) (NASDAQ:ATCO), a leading innovator of directed sound products and technologies, announced today it has received notice of new orders totaling more than $800,000 for its proprietary Long Range Acoustic Devices (LRAD(TM)). ATC attributed the notice of new LRAD orders from major commercial maritime companies mainly to the successful deployment of LRAD by the trained crew of a luxury liner that was attacked off the coast of Somalia last month. The company has begun LRAD shipments to these commercial maritime customers. LRAD is a breakthrough long-range hailing and warning, directed acoustic device designed to communicate with authority and exceptionally high intelligibility in a 15-30 degree beam. LRAD can issue a verbal challenge with instructions in excess of 500 meters and has the capability of following up with powerful warning tones to influence behavior, gain compliance or determine intent. LRADs are currently deployed in a variety of government, military and commercial applications around the world, including military deployments with the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army, and U.S. Navy in Operation Iraqi Freedom. "LRAD was developed in response to the attack on the USS Cole more than five years ago to support the protection and exclusion zones around U.S. Navy vessels," commented A.J. Ballard, who ATC recently promoted to vice president of government and force protection systems. "LRAD's profound directionality and highly intelligible voice instructions, coupled with its powerful warning tones, allow the maritime security industry to maintain and enforce security standoff zones at ranges in excess of 500 meters. LRAD's ability to communicate with the intended target with authority on land or at sea is highly effective in determining intent and creating safe situations out of uncertain ones. "The latest reports from Iraq indicate that LRAD is a key element in marine interdiction operations, proving to be extremely effective in controlling fishing and merchant vessel traffic around critical oil infrastructure in the Persian Gulf. LRAD is also proving to be very effective on the ground for use in crowd control, area denial and clearing buildings, and has the potential to save lives on both sides of the device," Ballard concluded. ATC also reported that it has received a new NeoPlanar Sound Saber order from the U.S. Navy valued at more than $225,000. ATC's proprietary NeoPlanar thin film magnetic speaker technology features high output with exceptional clarity. Sound Saber is a hardened NeoPlanar-based solution for providing highly intelligible sound in challenging acoustic environments such as airports, hangar bays, warehouses and other large government and commercial facilities. Ken Winter, ATC's director of NeoPlanar programs, remarked, "This order from the U.S. Navy came as a result of the Sound Saber passing the Navy's most rigorous shock and vibration tests. In addition, the Sound Sabers registered a 0.95 (out of 1.00) CIS intelligibility rating, as compared to typical loudspeakers, which have a 0.77 rating. By passing these tests, NeoPlanar-based products are now qualified for installation on any U.S. Navy ship, one of many markets for our NeoPlanar products."
