Given their druthers, the guys who now promote surplus are the same folks that would either spend us into bankrupcy or tax us into depression to balance the budget. Krugmanomics is their mantra and that guy hasnt been right yet this century. Last April my boss was oonvinced we were going to hell in a handbasket from the supposed "irrefutable" Krugman logic. He still thanks me for giving the opposite case and not impeding plans for growth in 04 and 05. We are now up for sale and it will be a nice payday for me but a giant one for him. If he had listened to Krugman and the liberal surplus dudes, we never would have gotten from point A to point B. Mike
PS Having said the above, at least in the last year Bush did not act pro-active enough to at least fight pork. Fine tuning of the tax cuts and spending isnt the same as repealing the tax cuts. I have long proposed a surtax and the amount of tax paid to at least pay for the war. It leaves the tax code reformed along with low divident and cap gains taxes but does raise some cash for the war which in reality is what blows the budget. A $3000 tax payer goes to $3300 while a $30,000 taxpayer goes to $33,000. Surtax is renewed each year if needed. Rate could be the 10% i proposed or reduced. Libs and cons should like this.
