If our politics weren't so permeated with "assassination by anecdote" then perhaps we could have balanced discussions about the merits of various government programs. But the hate-talk radio crowd wouldn't get much attention being fair and reasonable. More fun to wind up a "Let me tell you about this incredible stupid moron!" topic and then open up the lines to let people vent.
