"Makes sense to Bush, not me."

Bush and the Norquist (let's shrink the government by 50% ASAP) contingent wish to shrink the government by bankrupting it. They're well on their way.

If they can make the financial pain large enough, they will take an axe to Medicare, Medicaid, social programs, etc. That's why they have no concern, at the moment, for making these programs as large and expensive as possible.

We seem to be at a turning point though as Norquist, on Charlie Rose last night, seemed to be bursting into flames (ok, he should have) when he glossed over his concern about government expenditures and his support for Bush's out of control government expenditures.

It's part of the one-two punch but the first punch has come ($3 TRILLION in added debt) and the second punch (kill the New Deal finally) is hot on its heels.
