Hi J. Chris Parson; Interesting article by Paul Krugman.

The Iraq war reminds me very much of our heroic efforts in WW2. The US showed up a bit late in the war, December 1941, but after we entered, we did every thing we could to improve the economic situation in Germany and Japan.

That was a war that had the support of the whole American people. Every little town had a scrap metal drive. Even tin foil was collected because every little piece that we could gather together meant that we could rebuild industry in Germany and Japan that much more.

While American citizens avoided using gasoline and rubber, we sent supplies to the Axis powers so their citizens would support Democracy. It's hard to imagine that sort of sacrifice today, in our, "me first" society.

The low point of the war was probably in mid 1942. People now forget how dark the night looked just before the dawn. But by the end of 1942 we had electricity production in Japan up to twice the prewar level and unemployment in Germany had crashed to all time lows. We were well on our way to victory.
