Hi Hawkmoon; I would guess it was something like "oops!"

Look, I mean no disrespect for the man. But it is a fact of life that soldiers always write this sort of brave message for their loved ones. It has nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not the war was a good idea. Japanese soldiers wrote letters just like that to their relatives before volunteering for suicide duty.

The disrespect is on your side just as much, if not more, than on mine. You're using the tragic death of a soldier as ammunition in the political battle over whether or not we should be in the war.

The whole premise behind the war is that if we fight it long enough, we will win. But take a look at what is at stake between the two sides. For the US, Iraq is a sideshow of no great importance, a place that few of us could locate on a map just a few years ago. For the Arabs, Iraq is part of the lands that make up their heartland. Just on that basis alone it is clear that the other side will be willing to fight a hell of a lot longer than the US. They have more at stake. But already, only 3 years into the conflict, the US public is severely divided. Now what is 3 years compared to how long the Arabs fought in the Gaza strip?
