Women (in the USA, that have lived in foreign countries) were telling me precisely this over Thanksgiving vacation and I completely concur with them. They asked me, why is the USA behind other countries when it comes to women's rights. Because I was born in the USA, they ask me. The USA might have been headed in a forward direction back during the 60s, but it has not continued to do so. This country is a true disappointment for many women. Other countries are better for women of certain demographics. But I think most Boomer women would think the USA is the leader of women's rights. Many international Gen X women believe otherwise. Other countries have not stayed still. I recently attended a hightech conference where some famous people from the US baby boomer generation were stating to an audience that women have "to choose between an ambitious career and having children." Go figure. And these people call themselves so-called leaders? One Gen X lady sitting next to me rolled her eyes and walked out. Back to our main topic, so would you feel safe having your mentally retarded sister fly on an airplane? I can only ask the Airlines to have the Airline Escort inform the Airline Stewards/ess about my sister's handicap but what's the guarantee they will inform them and keep her safe?
