My Alma Mater offers the same sweet deal to low income students today even though tuition is 7x what it was the year I went to school.

And you say there's no inflation <g>.

7x? Did you graduate in the 70's? Most of the private schools I know have doubled to tripled their all-in costs since the early 90's and tripled to quadrupled in cost since the early 80's.

Declaring yourself independent of your family is the best way to get financial aid. Hiding assets is also good, although I'm not sure what's the best way to do that. Being an excellent student will guarantee that you'll get money somewhere to go to college.
