Which areas have they been really beaten? You mean microsoft? Well, here's a list, off the top of my head.... MP3/itunes vs. Windows media- apple wins Msft passport vs. paypal- paypal wins MSN search vs. Google- Google MSFT instant messenger vs. AOL- AOL wins, or Skype IE vs. Firefox - IE is losing at least for now Basically, msft has failed on every internet initiative imho. Personally I think Allchin did msft a huge disservice with pushing for Vista as an internet-enabled OS. It created the illusion within msft that losing all these small areas was immaterial because Vista was coming and going to take it all back. The problem is, Vista is just another PC operating system, nothing revolutionary at all. Now msft has to catch up on all these areas if they can.
