Poo Woes In Brooklyn: It's Just Like Abu Ghraib!
By bloggle

Call it what you want, but this sounds a lot like torture to me:
wnbc.com
NEW YORK -- Parents of children attending a charter school in Brooklyn claim that the principal ordered two first-graders to clean up human waste in a school bathroom.

"This is not something a 6-year-old should go through," said Shalese Lucas-Chisholm, mother of one of the boys allegedly involved in the incident.

The incident occurred last month at a charter school run by the United Federation of Teachers, a teachers union. Parents said the school's principal, Rita Danis, told their boys to clean up another child's feces in a school bathroom.

"When I was asked to do it, I felt a little unhappy," said Bijean Lucas-Chisholm, 6.

Teachers union President Randi Weingarten said kids were asked to clean the bathroom -- and that's unacceptable -- but exactly what they cleaned is at question.

"We think what happened is there were papers strewn in the boys bathroom," she said. "Some people think there was something under the paper, some people think there wasn't. But the bottom line is this: Kids should not be cleaning up in a bathroom.

"Melida Kennedy, mother of Josiah Kennedy, the other boy involved, said the task has had a long-lasting effect on her child.

"They did bring down my son's self-esteem," she said. "They bring it down so much, they make him think it's all his fault."

Unconscionable, I would say. Demeaning and dangerous! Where's Dick Durbin when we need him?

Uh, sounds to me like a bunch of boys fouled a restroom and were made to clean it up. God forbid, of course that some brat's self-esteem be damaged. But that may already have something to do with the sorry state of the tyke's personal hygiene.
