I am surprised you say that as it is a very illogical thing to say for such a normally reasonable person.

It's not environmentalism, it's survival. And doing something rational from an economic standpoint that benefits the entire nation. That it involves "ecological religion" is simply a coincidence, a mere feature of what must be done. I am no granola, and I am solidly behind the plan as are oil and chemical companies.

A lot of things which cause damage were learned after the damage is done. In no way does after-the-fact knowledge justify a refusal to remedy things.

Many of the locals did in fact fight for the wetlands; some people were a lot more sophisticated about the damage being done than others. They fought and fought and were ignored as eco-nuts. We all knew the risk to some and varying extent but we didn't have a focused appreciation of what the risk actually was until it was brought home to us.

Like 9/11, however, Katrina changed everything. The parallels are in fact uncanny.
