I found a nice recipe for pickled turnips. You cut them into french fry size first and use the juice from beats to die them red. After pickling, put them on some pita bread with cream cheese.

Of course you probably prefer beats as a root crop; which would explain your banning of turnips. So, probably not for you and your followers.
