I think Graphon may be worth continued attention. I follow internet-related patent litigation. Graphon showed up on my radar when they filed their recent suit against Autotrader (http://www.graphon.com/news/2005/2005.11.23.autotrader.shtml).
Looking into this further, I found that Graphon acquired an internet IP patent portfolio in Feburary 2005 with the acquisition of Network Engineering Software, Inc. The patents look very interesting in that they're early prior art(some in 1995, and they seem to cover several fundamental areas of internet commerce.

Some of their patents and the areas I think they may apply to:

5,778,367 customer-updatable on-line databases
5,579,664 software licensing using on-line processes
5,826,014 firewalls, implemented in software or hardware
5,870,550 multi-homing web servers
5,898,830 two-factor authentication processes

This portfolio may be more important (and may anticipate) the IP that was at the center of the Microsoft/Intertrust battle. That was settled when Microsoft licensed the patent at issue for $440 million in 2004.

I haven't found any commentary on Graphon's patent portfolio. This may be interesting to watch. Any opinions?
