NY Daily News predicts Rummy will resign early next year and Joe Lieberman will be tapped to head DOD. I've read that, too. It will only happen if Joe has decided to leave the Dem party. Just taking the Rumsfeld job isn't the "party leaving" act; it's leaving his Senate seat open for the Rep governor of Conn to appoint his replacement and tilt the Senate even further to the Reps. No way back in to the Dem party after that. I don't see Lieberman joining the Rep party. So he would have to do the Independent bit. So, it simply looks very unlikely. Joe's committing political suicide to do it. Odds are very, very slight.
