Tenchusatsu, here's a shocker of a statistic and a very good reason to be happy that you are older than 26:

"A poll by a Beijing magazine found that one-third of Chinese under the age of 26 had no problem with extramarital affairs."

But the next statistic doesn't surprise me - I think people should have sex with their intended life-long partner before getting married - since it's an important part of the marriage relationship:

"Today 70% of Beijing residents say they have had sexual relations before marriage, compared with just 15.5% in 1989, according to Li Yinhe, a sociologist at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. "

But this part surprised me a bit because 17 sounds too young: "A survey taken last January of seven major Chinese cities found that among those 14 to 20, the average age of first sexual experience was 17.4, while those 31 to 40 had lost their virginity much later, at 24.1 years old. "

If this trend continues, will kids start having sex at an average age of 13?

In the US, I hear Gen Ys don't even go out on dates like my generation did/does. They apparently just go out as a group and then someone winds up with someone. Out of curiosity, I asked a Gen Y, how do you go from hanging out with a large group to suddenly being a couple, with no intermediate dating steps like my generation has? The answer was: I don't know, turning into a couple just happens. I'm glad my generation is more respectful, where there are romantic dinner dates, and you get to know each other well. Old-fashioned but lovely.

Regards,
Amy J
