"The wife was telling him, 'Calm down. Let other people get on the plane. It will be all right,'" said Alan Tirpak.

"I thought maybe he's afraid of flying," Tirpak said.

a few minutes before the plane was to pull away, Alpizar bolted up the aisle

[ Yeesh, they shot a man because he panicked ]

Meanwhile, Marshalls are trained to intimdate:

cnn.com

"The marshals train in New Jersey, learning to abide by the principle: "Dominate. Intimidate. Control." They learn behavioral observation, intimidation tactics and self-defense. They also practice precision shooting,"

What an irresponsible comment - they should first research the passenger reports indicating he did not threaten anyone with a bomb: "White House spokesman Scott McClellan also said Thursday that the two air marshals appeared to have acted properly when they shot to kill."

Buechner did not speak publicly Thursday. She works for the Council on Quality and Leadership based in Towson, Md., a nonprofit organization focused on improving life for people with disabilities and mental illness, the organization said in a statement.

[ I hope she has the backbone to demand change. Her husband was murdered by the feds because he was mentally disabled. Being disabled shouldn't be deadly- the airlines should be required by law to have a policy that enables protection for the mentally handicapped - such as the ability for family or caretakers to get this medical information to the crew well in advance, before a flight. ]

I still am asking, how would it be safe to fly my mentally retarded sister to Calif when the Airline Escorts aren't required to inform the Airline crew about my sister's handicap. What if she got scared to fly by herself (she claims she wouldn't be) but what if she gets scared - will they shoot her too?
