He has no future in the dems and the DOD and then possible VP gambit gives him one last shot at national office(s) which I think he still covets.

I think he's enough of a realist to see that an offer to be the defense secretary in a far right republican administration is a dead end. His chances of getting the VP nomination are virtually nonexistent. If McCain or Guiliani, by some unfathomable long shot, were to get the nomination, they would have to go their far right for the vp slot. And if a far righter gets the nomination, Lieberman is simply too incompatible to be asked.

It will not surprise you that I'm not a Lieberman fan. He's one of those senators who is only helpful for the organization of the senate. I agree, however, that he's not a Zell Miller.
