zionist ... is usually designed to question a Jewish candidates loyalty to country. I dont think you meant to do this

You're correct - I didn't mean this, and I had no idea that it might be understood (in the US?) to have that meaning.
I was referring to the Israeli RW-militarist-fundamentalist view that biblical texts justify Israel occupying and colonising land barely inhabited, still less controlled, by Jews for the last 2000 years...

So although I don't use Zionist as a compliment it's got absolutely no bearing on patriotism or loyalty to the US or anywhere else.

Incidentally, I can maybe barely see McCain/Lieberman as a potential Democrat ticket, although I'm not sure McCain would accept that. In any case, I think McCain could find people less shopworn, without a previous failed candidacy to be used against them.

However I can't see it as a Republican ticket getting past the RW and evangelical wings: although they might hold their noses and vote if they were somehow given that choice in the presidential election itself, I don't think it would get past the primaries as there would be far more, er, zealous adherents to RW orthodoxy available and very motivated to stand against such a pair.

I think that McCain could probably win a presidential race almost regardless of his VP and whichever party he stood for, if he could just somehow win the nomination from one side or the other... The only ones who would be opposed would be the extremer LW or RW elements and their opposition is almost something to be coveted ;-)
