I take your point -- delusional thinking and bubbles make fine friends. But if a person has assets to invest and is not limited to dollar denominated assets, it seems reasonable to me to view gold as a form of insurance against US economic suicide. Look at who is investing borrowed money versus who actually has capital at risk. If gold is a true hedge, the smart money will want more of it as the car picks up speed and the cliff draws near.
