Actually, going into that election a number of people had speculated about Gore winning the EC, but loosing the pop. vote. I was shocked that 2004 was so close, with Ohio coming near handing Kerry the EC while Bush had what 3-4M on him in the pop vote. That should have been much more of a wakeup call for fans of the EC method.
