Also, we don't need to ride horses for several days to deliver voting results, and we are no longer scared of the tyranny of democracy in the hands of the common man. IMO, those where the two main reasons for the EC. They were communicators conveying the will of their constituents as well as sages empowered to alter that will if they thought there were compelling reasons.

Communication we have solved rather well, and LOL, we would have had a collective fit if the EC actually performed its other roll, which AFAIK is what should have happened in 2000. It should have been punted to the EC, no Florida or USSC nonsense, just trust to the EC. That is what it is for. But the truth of the matter is we expect the EC to be a robot, not a deliberative body. If it became a deliberative body in an election like 2000, we would toss it out. Just another example of how the original intent of the Constitution has became altered, and damn, we can't blame activist judges for it. :)
