Burning a flag is political speech - it has a lot to do with a lot of things. Banana republics make up laws to stop people expressing political speech that incumbent politicians don't like. The Supreme Court agrees it doesn't accord with American values.

In general, HIllary is a touch more to the left than I would like, but that's just to me. I consider this gesture to be blatant, cheap pandering to the right purely for electoral advantage. It makes me question her character and principles, not her political orientation.

I am not sure the Democrats have anyone who is very electable right now. But it's too soon to say who will emerge on the 2007 pre-primary hustings and start to look good.

I seriously doubt any far right candidate could get elected nationwide now. They would have to run on Bush's record, which only has 40-45% support if that much.

Yes, I am the moderator here and I tolerate a wider range of views than I expected to on this thread. But as long as it works and people keep the peace, that is how we will operate. The deliberate provocateurs have already been banned.

Judging by the slow creep up in Subjectmarks, we are doing OK.
