Kerry tells the hard truths about self-defeating excesses in our military, but remains a rock-solid pro-military patriot and war hero. Ironic that the White House praised the whistle-blower at Abu Graiab but their people demonize Kerry for stating the obvious, that Iraqis should be the ones doing the dirty work in Iraq. Otherwise we create more and more America-haters in the very country we're trying to save.

As for Vietnam, the Phoenix Program utilized all those extreme methods which Kerry described in 1971 and any Spec-Ops or CIA guy who was working then will confirm that if they're willing to tell the truth. Plus Free Fire zones, Agent Orange and Napalm, all happened for a long time. All were atrocious and self-defeating ways to wage a war. If you talked to McNamara now, he'd admit it was all a huge mistake.
