MRV expands in Italy
Author: roberto daveti - Published the 02/12/2005 - (Dec. 2, 2005 --- Europe has the dates backward)

The Italian branch (office) of MRV appoints three new sales managers to develop, with different modality, the Enterprise market

With the aim of widening their structure and to increase the opportunities of business, MRV COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (Nasdaq: MRVC), optical supplier leader of access solutions, services and members for metropolitan Ethernet networks is leading a campaign to strengthen their organic presence in strategic areas: United States, Germany and Italy. In particular, the Italian branch (office) of MRV has appointed three new figures with responsibilities to develop, with different modality, the Enterprise market; Gianluca Benenati, Enterprise business development for the North, Claudio Vesco, Enterprise business development for the NorthEast and Massimo Romagnoli,, senior sales account manager.

For MRV, Italy represents one of the markets with great growth potential to increase is the Enterprise level, and towards the carrier. In this context, MRV strengthens its own partnership with its controlled subsidiary EDSlan conferring on them the role of master distributor for its entire range of products. That will concur to rationalize and to optimize the support trades them, technical and logistic on all the national territory. EDSlan has a prominent role in the panorama of the Italian distribution and is a qualified interlocutor for retailers and system integrator of every dimension.

"The widening of the organic presence to a European level will allow MRV to support their own Customers better - Chen Genossar, senior vice president of MRV declares. - the increase of the territorial presence is parallel to the engagement of the group in the growing development of advanced solutions, as demonstrated by the recent introduction of the technologie "service aware networking."
"Italy is a strategic market for MRV - concludes Nicholas D' Innocenzo ,who is responsible for the Italian branch (office). - the strengthening of our structure through the insertion of qualified figures is a fundamental step in order to undertake on the customers puts into effect them and upgrades them an effective one and continues action of information and promotion of our technological solutions ".

Although these are just some regional sales managers, when viewed together with the rest of the mosaic these moves seem significant...

Shay's replacement gets all the attention and is important, but this expression of strategic purpose and focus on the networking business in Germany and Italy is equally significant and coming at the same time, gives context to the recent changes in Germany (Frank Krause) as well as in the US with the hiring of dozens of new sales engineers and others.......

These changes signal to me a determined effort by MRV to shake off the lethargy of the last five years and evolve forward into a profitable (maybe) network equipment company..

Over the last year, we have watched MRV build a suite of Metro Ethernet Access products to address the networking equipment market -- A market in which in the US, I believe, they have not previously participated in any meaningful way...

For MRV, the development of the DaVinci switches, the OS9000 and the soon to be announced OSM6500 edge router is an effort to break into the US networking equipment market for what really will be the first time.

This emphasizes, at least to me, the next year or so may well be MRV's last chance at gaining network equipment customers in the US, maturing into a real network equipment company and leaving Luminent and the commodity optical components business behind.

[I think these management and staffing changes also reflect that now MRV must realize this too.]
