My solution is something i remember from a vietnam war proposal or actual law, not sure. It is a tax surtax on the amount actually paid, not the amount earned How about this? Repeal the tax cuts for the wealthiest (over $500,000 per year). People like Gates, Buffett, Soros all say they don't need the tax cuts. Plus, put a $3 per gallon surcharge on gas. $6 per gallon is about what everybody else in the world pays for gas. This way we can get more serious about conservation, develop alternative sources for energy, get rid of the budet deficit, and reduce our dependence on ME oil. At the same time, we need to expand and improve mass transit. This would also be good for the environment. That would be a win/win/win/win proposal.
