"Basic channel" is your local over-the-air stations, which are free, plus C-SPAN, free, and the shopping channels, which pay the carrier.

This thing started with Derek saying he got 100 channels for twelve bucks. He said it was called basic service or some such. I replied that I have 100 channels for fifty bucks called basic plus or some such and that basic basic for me would be as you describe for fourteen bucks. I don't see how 100 channels for twelve bucks is possible. Do you?
