Conundrum (g). Don't know. Speculation by trend followers? For those who are buying AAPL or GOOG, 35% premium of JOF is a bargain (g). These guys don't care about the price anyway.

It's interesting that there are a lot of real estate funds in the list of CEFs traded at big discount

Unrelated question: do you use any sentiment indicators to trade gold miners? I thought that premium/discount of gold CEFs (such as CEF or ASA or GGN) might be useful, but not sure that this is the case after introduction of GLD.
