"At present, the DOW, the NAZ & the S&P are on a near term downtrend although the longer or primary trend of the 3 of them is still up."

Sure, the long-term trends are intact. Looking a little further, ^DJI is retreating recently from a two-year uptrend, which has stalled at the 9/01 level.

^DJT is in recent decline from a two year double. This is possibly related to a ^DJC recent advance, following a double in four years.

My own (sardonic) view is: How much more good news can be wrung out of a declining US economic situation? Dollar is FUBAR; gold is up; current account deficit is up; US budget deficit is up; consumer debt is up, underemployment is up; the US auto industry is in peril; retirees may not get what they were promised. OTOH, politicians are still telling us everything is wonderful and the future is great -:)
