CJ, I think a large part of our energy consumption is due to our standard of living. Of course we're going to be consuming more energy per capita than the rest of the world. After all, when 1/3 of the world lives in China and India, and most of them enjoy much lower standards of living than we do, it kind of tilts the scales a little, don't you think?

Besides, we could cut our energy consumption in half, which itself would require major changes in our lifestyles, and still we'd be considered one of the largest per capita consumers of energy. And the cycle of self-loathing continues ...
