CJ, I think a large part of our energy consumption is due to our standard of living. Of course we're going to be consuming more energy per capita than the rest of the world. After all, when 1/3 of the world lives in China and India, and most of them enjoy much lower standards of living than we do, it kind of tilts the scales a little, don't you think? That's nonsense. That's typical American justification for unquestionable abuse........the kind of stuff you all criticize liberals because we won't agree and calling us unAmerican for objecting. Why do you think our energy consumption per capita is significantly higher than Japan's and Europe's when our standard of living is not? Do you think its coincidence that both Europe and Japan have the most developed and efficient train systems in the world while the American counterpart is kept together with bubble gum and rubber bands? We know Americans will take trains when they make sense......see the east coast corridor, S. CA and the PNW, and yet we refuse to upgrade our train system inspite of the fact that trains are considerably more fuel efficient than planes and single occupant cars. Do you really think we care about energy consumption when current new homes are 20% bigger than homes built 20 years ago? Do you think its pure coincidence that the two most marketable hybrids came out of Japan, causing American auto companies to beg, borrow and steal hybrid motors for their cars? Besides, we could cut our energy consumption in half, which itself would require major changes in our lifestyles, and still we'd be considered one of the largest per capita consumers of energy. And the cycle of self-loathing continues ... That's pathetic. When did self loathing become bad when there is justification?
