Thomas, It appears that you have never been in the military. The military salute is a greeting, and has nothing to do with worshiping. No military person, regardless of rank, is expected to bow down on his knees, and kiss the West Point ring on an officer's finger. You are trying the ancient attempt to compare apples to oranges. Not even an engineer can do that. Respect, and worship, are miles apart.
Where we differ, is that you have faith in a human being, the Pope, and my faith is in God alone.
Peter was the first disciple of Jesus, and Jesus, while in Judea, depended on Peter to help form the church of Jesus Christ. None of that was done in Rome, and Peter did not call himself Pope, nor did Jesus. There was no office known to be headed by a person called the Pope until after Peter died.
The link you sent, is worthless. It is from the Catholic library, and is surely biased on the side of the myth about Peter ever being a Pope. |
