don't know why I haven't seen this thread before. Wine is my hobby and passion. I'm going to suggest a great cheap sparkler for holiday parties. Prosecco is sort of the wine of the moment and Zardetto is a wonderful one. Even those who eschew champagne and sparkling wine generally find this pleasant. There is none of that grapey taste one gets with Cava and cheaper non Méthode champenoise wines from US. The great thing for a host serving Prosecco is that it is very light in alcohol so guests can drink throughout a party with fewer side effects. I especially love Zardetto as it retains its bubbles for quite a while after opening. Just stick a spoon through the neck and leave the bottle in an icewater bath and it will hold.
