"CBS opens its newsroom to the public

It's basically a way for news consumers to understand the decision making process behind the news and a forum to discuss news coverage. It's a pretty ballsy move, if you ask me. The journalists who make decisions on a daily basis must answer questions about why they made those decisions. A team of independent journalists is running the website. They're relaying questions from the public to producers, reporters, and anchors. They are also in the newsroom and producing stories and internet videos about the daily workings inside CBS News. The idea, I guess, is to make everybody involved in the news responsible for what goes out on air. I would think that the project also promotes objectivity, since morning news meetings are recorded, producers and reporters can't make snide remarks about newsmakers without looking really stupid. At the same time, the project must add stress to everybody's jobs, because of all the added criticism. Everybody loves to bash the news (myself included), so hopefully this little project will bring some understanding to viewers and to the decision-makers about why the public is frustrated with them.
Now, if only FOX Newschannel would offer up full disclosure..." tvsquad.com |
