Lieberman's pro-war views stir Democratic concerns on 2006

(Washington-AP, Dec. 10, 2005 11:30 AM) _ Senator Joe Lieberman isn't winning any friends in Democratic circles with his staunch support of President Bush's Iraq policies.

Some Democratic colleagues see him as undercutting their party's efforts to take control of Congress from the G-O-P next fall.

U-Conn professor Ken Dautrich says Lieberman's pro-war views are damaging the ability of Democrats to wage a national campaign. He says that's frustrating for people trying to craft a Democratic strategy.

Democrats think Bush is vulnerable on the war, so they want to use it against him in 2006. They're hoping to win the House back after 12 years of Republican control.

But Lieberman is veering far from the Democratic script. His vocal support for the war has opponents in Connecticut talking about a challenge. Former Governor Lowell Weicker has already said he might run against Lieberman if no one else does.
