Within six months of my eighteenth birthday selective service registration was suspended. We were already reducing forces in Vietnam. My mistake was in not signing up for ROTC or reserves.

I had no wife, children or excuses. It just did not seem important to me at the time. The military was scaling back forces and recruitment was minimal.
