Bill, I've been reading the Sydney Morning Herald, and spoke to family in Sydney (primarily to make sure they were not caught in between)... As I understand it, the sequence of events was :

- A week (or maybe 2) ago, 2 lifeguards at Cronulla beach were hit bad (not sure if dead), by migrants from the arab world.
- That resulted in white Ausies making threats against people who looked like they might be of arab origin.
- This 'eye for an eye' has continued, and what you hear now is the 2nd day of serious violence in Cronulla.
