Worse than that, it ignored the local (Iraqi) view of America within the wider ME context.

I could have added, almost endlessly, to the list. I was simply trying to stay at a general level. As for your point, it's hard to know what the Iraqi view was--the Kurds were quite happy to see us do anything to end Hussein's reign; the Shiites were, for different reasons. I think the turning point in the Shias views came after the incompetent occupation.
