the news these days is all distraction

Isn't that the truth?

There's a huge story boiling under the surface here in NO--the Fed's failure to act appropriately given the lapses in the Corps of Engineers legally mandated duty to erect, inspect, and maintain levees able to withstand a cat. 3 storm. The federal response post-Katrina was (and is) equally shameful.

The storm was routine. The levees should have not broken.

Lots of people throughout the nation feel that the old adage about fixing what you break doesn't apply to the federal government.

Time to secede, cut off natural gas. vbg

We are off the Administration's and the media's radar screen now. I'm convinced that from the Administration's perspective it's a "no news is good news" gambit. It knows exactly how vulnerable it is to charges it has bungled the response and the pre-Katrina effort.

There are lots of us down here who are going to remind W as forcefully as possible of his speech at Jackson Square. Our hopes and spirits were lifted by that speech. Since then it's been nothing but incompetence, delay, and obfuscation.

This is a story that does not deserve distraction.
