I suppose some people might want the government to crash and burn under the weight of enormous debt, but I doubt most of the Neocons do

I've stayed out of this debate for the most part because it's a tad too semantic for my interest. To be frank, I could care less about distinguishing particular brands of blinkered extremism.

However, I have seen suggested (honestly not sure where now, it was a year or more back) that proponents of a smaller government might be deliberately encouraging larger deficits (via tax cuts and military expenditure, obviously good things) in order to later force through spending cuts in the programs they didn't like, which was basically everything else, justifying them by pointing out that they could no longer be afforded...

Don't believe it was a neocon view but they may have been fellow travellers.
