FIRST QUANTUM MINERALS DIVIDEND UPDATE; 2006 DIVIDEND TO EQUAL NO LESS THAN 10% OF AFTER TAX PROFIT

First Quantum Minerals Ltd.'s board of directors expects total dividends in respect of 2006 will be no less than 10 per cent of aftertax profits for the year. The directors have reviewed the outlook for 2006 and believe the outlook for the year ahead to be very promising, and despite a significant program of capital expenditure related to new mining operations, supportive of increased dividend payments.

Philip Pascall, chairman and chief executive officer, commented: "Our goal is to set a dividend level which is consistent with our objective of maintaining strong growth through development of new mines. We are delighted that our strong performance this year and the outlook for next year enable us to propose returning no less than 10 per cent of our 2006 after tax profit to our shareholders as well as forging ahead with our development projects."
