Genesis Microchip Announces Key TV Design Win for Its FLI5921 ''Oak'' Display Controller With Samsung

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 2005--

Genesis(R) Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS), a world leader in the development of image processing technologies for flat-panel monitors, TVs and other consumer display products, today announced that Samsung Electronics, a global leading consumer electronics manufacturer, has designed Genesis Microchip's highly integrated FLI5921 display controller into its new 23-inch, 27-inch, and 32-inch LCD TVs, as well as its new 42-inch Plasma television, available now in Europe.

"Samsung is clearly at the forefront of digital convergence in the flat-panel TV industry and we are very pleased to have been selected by such an innovative CE company to provide image processing technology for these new LCD and Plasma TV platforms," said Raphael Mehrbians, Genesis Microchip's senior vice president of Product Marketing.

The FLI5921 is a highly integrated, mixed-signal LCD controller for multi-function monitors and flat-panel TVs supporting resolutions up to SXGA including 1366x768. The controller features DCDi(R) by Faroudja video processing, which includes directional correlational deinterlacing, motion adaptive deinterlacing (MADi) and advanced film mode detection. In addition, the FLI5921 offers Active Color Management(TM) digital color enhancement, LCD response time compensation and frame rate conversion. The combination of these video and image processing features allows MFMs and flat-panel TVs to produce sharp, life-like, vibrant images.

The controller is highly integrated, offering multiple inputs (two analog, a DVI and digital video port) as well as Picture-in-Picture capability. The FLI5921 also offers an embedded microcontroller, a versatile OSD engine, a low bandwidth ADC and dual LVDS transmitters. This level of integration helps reduce manufacturers' system cost to enable the production of attractively-priced, HDTV-ready, multi-function monitors or LCD TVs without sacrificing features or functionality.
