As much as I respect your efforts, what you say about New Orleans can equally be said about Mobile, AL. Same traditions, same cultural roots, same historical antecedants, similar buildings and sections of the city with architectural distinction stretching back to its French roots, and,
by the way, the tradition of Mardi Gras was instituted in Mobile long before New Orleans 'borrowed' the celebration and then claimed it as is own unique heritage.
And Mobile, surviving many of the same hurricanes you catalog and more, is also a major port on a major bay fed by major rivers connecting with the Tennessee and the Ohio rivers by means of the TennTom canal.
And, most important of all, Mobile is not built on land below sea level.
Caveat: Although I was born in Biloxi, MS, I was raised in Mobile, Alabama, and visited NO frequently when I had nothing better to do. |
