Just remember, no anti-war candidate has ever won the WH, even in the midst of a very unpopular war. Nixon beat McGovern by a whopping 20%, and McGovern was a war hero, son of a minister and all-around admirable guy. But he was anti-war.

The rightwing knows how to smear anyone anti-war of being an unpatriotic coward, quitter and wimp. So our candidates must be largely immune to that kind of BS. Of course Kerry wasn't, even though he too was a war hero. So who is immune? Murtha? Clark? Warner? Or is it more a matter of exposing the smear before it happens next time to defeat that dirty trick ahead of time?

And by 2008, will the war still be a major issue? Seemingly by then it will be over, mainly because we don't have enough troops to keep sending there. Of course, Bush (if he survives that long) may start a new war for political reasons. Don't put it past him. Iran is tempting to the neocons and oilmen.
