Upon review I see that the fight is over punitive damages. The fishermen were awarded $5 billion in 1994, but Exxon has been fighting it all this time. The award was reduced to $4.5 billion, with $2.5 billion in interest for a total of $7 billion. They'll be back in court again next month, January 27th. Looks like it'll take another year or two for resolution. In the meantime, a lot of the fishermen have died so I guess the money would go to the heirs.

If Exxon is finally forced to pay up, there'll be one heck of a party here. That is enough to build at least a dozen bridges to nowhere! <g>
