American public schools have dumbed down the citizenry to such an extent they can't think critically for themselves and discern the deceptions of Bush and his neo-cons.

American public schools are mostly diploma mills and many a high school graduate got a diploma which is not worth the paper on which it was printed. Some kids graduated because they happened to have been the oldest kids at school, have overstayed their welcome, and their schools were too embarrassed to continue to have them on their registers.
